I want the ability to have everything behind a login. I don’t want people not signed in watching videos and wasting bandwidth.
I don’t think so. We are already at the point where people don’t truly value the time artists spend creating their art. Artists and artist adjacent people will put additional value on human made art but they likely already highly value human made art.
So he created trade problems with China and then “solved” them? I bet my ass this deal is worse for trade than pre 2016

What is peoples opinions on reposting. Sometimes i see a cool video from a creator i like and i want to repost it to loops but i feel like im stealing and reuploading their work. I think reposting to lemmy is fine since its a link aggregation site first.
Reddit users are about to get reminded that its not their platform to make rules
I would urge you to re-read that and scrutinize the claims because I do not think that should ruin your view of Dan. Think about the claims and ask your self if you really care about those points.
That letter comes off as extremely pathetic. The guy is human. Nothing said there was crazy or rude or worth canceling support for a over. None of the nitpicked points had nearly enough evidence or context for people to make a judgement. The presentation was extremely bias and borderline untrue.
For example “I am also in talks with @hazy! to join our team” is not an official offer to join the team. Yet this letter presents it as a set in stone offer that Dan went back on for unjustified reasons. Dan gave his reasons why the offer fell through and if he is to be believed (and if he isnt) then the negotiations fell through and thats normal and ok.
Another example. This letter says Dan is so mean to his fellow fedi devs calling them rats. Then shows 3 instances of Dan clearly responding to attacks against him. Why can these “fellow” fedi devs attack dan but Dan cannot defend himself? The comments for Dan were unbelievably tame. He does not call fedi devs rats he calls some of the people attacking him rats. There is a big difference there.
I would push back on any example in that doc (except the open source one) because they all seem very stupid.
People start these projects as a hobby and users expect higher than corporate level professionalism its insane. You want people to be human but you dogpile anyone who acts human.
awesome. I think this will really motivate people moving over to stay for a bit.
Nah, they gave voters plenty to be hopeful about but none of them actually want that future. The choice was pretty damn clear.
What legally stops them from charging for it? As long as it remains open source it should be fine.
Please be good
