  • You don’t even have to change that, but I’d love to see something that at least changed it to long term profits, like over 3-5 years, not quarterly where everything is running into the ground for every penny. We can even do that by changing how we tax stocks. The longer held, the less paid on taxes.

But even without that, well regulated capitalism is fine.

The real root problem is campaign finance deregulation which allows corporations to buy out both parties primaries for people who will make them more money, and further deregulate campaign finance so that the next round the politicians get more and are incentived to repeat.

Especially with how campaign “war chests” can roll over forever.

It’s a snowball effect and the longer we ignore it the harder it is to fix. The harsh truth is most elected Dems at the federal level shouldn’t be there and need to be replaced. We can’t just wait for the rotten apples to fully rot to make space for new ones. We need to get them the fuck out the barrel

  • Yeah, by no means are they off the hook.

But their entire job is signing up to be the fall guy as the face of the company. That’s why golden parachutes are a thing and an incredibly unpopular CEO resigns in “disgrace” then is immediately hired by another corporation often in a drastically different field.

Because, again, their only job is to be the face of the company for when something unpopular happens.

Everyone in the C suite at a billion dollar corporation is evil, they’re all at best complicent

  • All they can think to do

    They’re not that stupid.

They know exactly what voters want to hear and what they want politicians to do.

The issue is that is often the direct opposite of what their donors tell them to do. If they wanted to reach out, they’d hand AOC a megaphone or let Bernie talk about policy.

They’re focused on “messaging” because that’s what they have control over still. They can’t change their votes or support of policies, because the oligarchs decide that for Dem leadership just like they do Republican.

A letter by their name doesn’t make them your friend just because the other letter would make them your enemy. We need to have higher standards than just that letter, otherwise the ones with the most donations will keep winning primaries, and keep being the only other option.

  • Some cities are downright hostile to vehicles with fewer than 4 wheels and you put your life on the line every time you go out.

Even in cities where they’re common…

I lived in Hawaii where they’re all over, and even tho I’m basically a giant I rode one too. One day I was a couple cars back from a 4 way stop, and there was a woman on a scooter a few cars ahead. I’m tall enough I could see over cars on it, so I saw her wait her turn, slowly pull out into the intersection…

And the truck to her left just guns it, hits her pretty hard, and then just drives off.

She did everything right and just got demolished.

  • I fucking hate how “populism” got the “progressive/socialist/communist” treatment by the neoliberal mouthpieces of billionaires…

Populism is a range of political stances that emphasize the idea of the common ‘people’ and often position this group in opposition to a perceived ‘elite’.[1] It is frequently associated with anti-establishment and anti-political sentiment.[2] The term developed in the late 19th century and has been applied to various politicians, parties and movements since that time, often as a pejorative. Within political science and other social sciences, several different definitions of populism have been employed, with some scholars proposing that the term be rejected altogether.[1][3]

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Populism

The issue with trump is he lies about being a populist.

The issue with the neoliberal wing of the democratic party is they are the establishment. So they actively fight against common Americans gaining any power, politically or economically.

And obviously Republicans are worse, but ask Americans if they want the establishment, and the bets reaction you’ll get is “better than Mad Max”.

And that’s just not enough to win elections.

We need a Dem party that is sincerely populist or we’ll keep losing elections.

The people are over neoliberalism, and have been for decades.

  • It ain’t just that, it’s making them have the fight.

Not sure how many people remember Project Pat, but:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLbYMfbBB1w

We used to sing it except “ain’t going back to mast” because Captain’s Mast was the less formal version of Court Martial. At a mast, the Captain could do whatever they wanted and no one higher up even heard about it.

You had to agree to Mast, if you didn’t they’d have to take you to court martial where people outside the chain of command got to hear what’s going on. The downside is punishment could be much worse.

Some of my guys were getting fucked, so I told everyone to refuse Captain’s Mast, and the command backed down because it was obvious they weren’t the problem. But our chain of command showed they didn’t give a fuck.

Word spread that a 1/3 of my division got out of demotions, and it was all anyone would talk about.

It’s why I don’t take the idea of the American military being used against Americans very seriously. The vast majority are just there because they have no other options. They hate the military more than most pascifists do. So it doesn’t take much for shit to break down.

That’s not even getting into how much of the military are minorities, immigrants, or even non-citizens. They’re not gonna do what trump wants them to.

  • Power is where people believe it is.

No one really “controls” a military or government, at every step of the chain people can disagree. And when they do, it doesn’t always shake out the way people expect.

I was threatened with a mutinity charge in the Navy, but I stood by my position and like five people didn’t get demoted over some bullshit that wasn’t their fault.

If I’d have backed down, they’d have been fucked because they were the fall guys.

If trump tries to sic the US government on citizens or blue states, don’t expect everyone to just follow orders, even if the people at the very top do. They’re still the ones sitting at desks.

Look at South Korea, president tried to pull a coup and basically everyone told him to fuck off. Didn’t matter that he was in charge of the military and government

    Comfort.

    Gen 1 fights fascism.

Gen 2 enjoys society and understands how much worse it can be.

Gen 3 grows up with all the advantages and privilege, takes it for granted, and burns it down so they don’t have to pay for Gen 4 to have it.

    • that is when both sides sell out to the oligarchs

Gen 4 is fucked and desperate, and either disengage politically or go with the party that’s the best liars.

    • that is where we are now.

    What comes next?

If we’re lucky at the DNC chair election they see the error of their ways, the neoliberals lose their death grip on the party, and shit gets better surprisingly fast. If we’re lucky we came close enough to the ground that we go to Gen 2.

If we’re not, the left most option sides with the oligarchs over voters, and it’s time to affix your own oxygen mask before helping your neighbor. We’re back at Gen 1, and it might take a while

  • Yeah, once I noticed the post title it made sense why you removed the comments.

    But even without that:

But mods can be stricter than the instance.

It’s ridiculous that people leap to the “.world is full of pro-corprate fascists” because they disagree with a single mod.

There’s more than few instances I dont like, so I’ve blocked them and never see them. I don’t know why people with the axe to grind against .world dont do the same thing.

Edgy kids just want to find the line and then constantly put their toes over it and claim nothing is allowed because they personally crossed a line.
