Because Lemmy doesn’t care about the content of the article, they just care who’s posting it. If they think that person is not “one of them,” then they downvote it regardless of content. Often times, before reading an article, they’ll click the users post history just to see if they should like the person or not.

I planned ahead for layoffs for every fucking job I had, before I retired. I don’t trust management from anywhere. I don’t know why Fed workers would feel any different.

And I also don’t feel any more sorry for them than anyone else. Non workers get laid off all the time and Lemmy doesn’t seem to care that much about them.
