Exploring Venus with Tethered Balloon Systems

In recent times, there has been a growing interest in exploring Venus, the second planet from the Sun, notable for its extreme atmospheric conditions. This article delves into the innovative plans being proposed for exploring the surface of Venus using a tethered balloon system, a concept known as the Tethered Observatory for Balloon-based Imaging and Atmospheric Sampling (TOBIAS). This initiative is supported by NASA’s Institute of Advanced Concepts Phase I program and aims to overcome the challenging environmental conditions of Venus.

Yeah I know but the eugenics wars were supposed to happen in 1997, then that day came and went and they have retconned and contorted and split realities to the point that the pro-social vision is deeply obscured.

There are still elements of the vision that they give lip service to and I enjoy it as entertainment. But it has lost the thread and no longer serves as inspiration to transcend this race to the bottom we are all in.

I personally am very hungry for near-future fiction that shows we can build a better world if we choose to. Yet I acknowledge that is the hardest kind of fiction to do well. The future catches up quickly as Star Trek shows.
