During their protest of Russell Vought’s confirmation, Senate Democrats sounded the alarm about Vought’s role in drafting Project 2025 and his support for vastly expanding the power of the president.
Vought, said Wisconsin senator Tammy Baldwin at 10:30 pm eastern time on Wednesday, “has openly called for the president to defy congress and take control of federal funding decisions that are constitutionally vested in the legislative branch.”
Schiff accused the Trump administration of unlawfully attempting to break down the separation of powers and said Vought would play a role in aiding that effort.
“This is an effort to try to consolidate power, all the power of this government, in the hands of Donald Trump and a few of his hand-picked very wealthy, billionaire friends,” said California Democrat Adam Schiff.
Too many leftists stayed home during the election. Now democrats don’t have enough elected officials to do anything. But you probably knew that.
Remember Obama’s presidency? They can at least be as disruptive as the Republicans were for that.
These people are using a completely different playbook than Obama. The comparison is absurd.
They have been in the house of representative by using the republicans infighting against them. But again democrats don’t have enough elected officials to pass or block legislation because leftists continue to fail at winning over voters and getting elected.
Bullshit. The Republicans managed to obstruct even with a minority. Senate Democrats have no excuse for continuing to play along in good faith.
At least fucking filibuster everything, damn it!
Senate Republicans don’t seem to have a legislative agenda to block. Tax bills are passed through reconciliation which isn’t subject to a cloture vote, meaning it can’t be filibustered.
We’re talking about confirmation votes for Trump appointees right now.
Filibusters don’t stop anything. Just delay it. Republicans are able to obstruct by tricking progressives into electing republicans like Fetterman and Sinema.
Democrats are obstructing legislation in the house as much as possible but they don’t have a majority so their success is dependent on republican infighting.
I wish leftists knew how to win elections so we could get politicians that vote on leftist policies. But leftists are unpopular among voters and consistently lose elections.
It seems like every time a progressive gets elected they end up being a republican like Fetterman and Sinema.
I don’t think that’s accurate. I think progressive voters don’t show up for the primaries so we don’t get enough progressive candidates on the ballot. The primaries are where the party platform is shifted. It’s how the Republicans got first the Tea Party and then MAGA.
Which is why we need the DNC to vet candidates as much as possible. So we don’t end up getting some democrat version of Trump through open primaries.
I do, but outnumbered doesn’t mean give up.
Who gave up other than leftists on Election Day? Democrats are still trying to block legislation in the house and senate without a majority.
From what I can tell, they are still playing defence. They need to start poking bears. Use the laws even if outnumbered. Show force; show pressure.
“Good” media is disappearing and what we have is filtered through Trump’s jockstrap. Tell us what is happening. Get the word out. We can’t help if all we hear is what has happened.
The rules have changed and democrats are still using a textbook from 1990.
Hell, I’m not politician but I’m more qualified then many bozos sitting fat and happy. Maybe I’ll run. My campaign message will be “Maybe don’t be a dick this time?” Ha!
These words mean nothing. They are not a strategy or a plan or even coherent.
You’re avoiding the fact that in a democracy, you need enough votes to make things happen.
We know what’s happening. That’s why we are having this conversation.
What rules have changed? Republicans are breaking the rules by performing a coup. To even imply that democrats should do the same thing as republicans shows you’re arguing in bad faith.
The Republicans have a plan and leadership to follow through, rules or not. Democrats are stuck in a system that is stacked against them and I haven’t seen anything but reactionary chaos.
Maybe assert control over their responsibilities, such as federal budget. You don’t need the majority, last I heard, to tell the prez to bugger off out of his territory. Stop handing the president congresses powers.
Edit: I see states are suing to stop, which is a big, big plus, but congress controls the purse. Kick them out or take a page from the Republican playbook and shut down the gov.
