During a news conference at an international security conference in Munich, Germany on Saturday, Joly was asked if she and her international colleagues discussed re-admitting Russia into the group.
“No we didn’t, and I am telling the position of Canada: No way this will happen,” she said.
The meeting of foreign ministers during the Munich Security Conference was the first one under Canada’s 2025 presidency. Joly also announced she will host her counterparts in Charlevoix, Que., on March 12-14.
Russia used to be part of what was known as the Group of Eight until other members suspended Moscow in 2014 over the invasion of Ukraine that resulted in Russia taking over Crimea.
The way things are going it will be the G6 and the G2 with just the US and Russia
It won’t happen because the Russian’s say that the G-7 isn’t relevant anymore. It’s the BRICs that is relevant, and the G-20. Canada shouldn’t even be in the G-7 or the G-20. We’re nobodies in world affairs.
The only reason Russia says the G7 isn’t relevant is because they got kicked out.

Canada will be picked on by the US anyway, we might as well defend our value. I don’t propose explicitly antagonizing the US administration directly today, but showing that we will speak up and fight back if someone step on our toes and act against our internet. Kindness and politeness isn’t a weakness, it’s our way of exhibiting strength until we can’t resolve things politely.
